17th July 2014~ day 4 of social action project
Today was amazing.
At 11am we took a trip to the local charity Ruby's Fund, which was inspirational to say the least. Alix Wisener gave us a tour around the recently renovated facilities, which cater to less able children and their families. What inspired me the most was the depth to which they aided people; it ranged from holistic therapies to counselling for family members affected, and for those less able even the difficulty of getting haircuts had been considered.
Also the large ball pit was especially fun to dive into, and especially difficult to clamber out of.
At 2pm the Chronicle came to photograph us for an article about Bear Aware, but they'd anticipated only a few people rather than 13 of us. This resulted in standing closer to each other than you'd have thought possible.
Shortly after the photo had been taken, the whole group headed down to Congleton park to practise choreography for our flashmob; so far it's coming together nicely, and after we sort the music timings precisely I have no doubt it'll be perfect.
15th July 2014~ day 2 of social action project
So far today we have;
- Been to the library and filmed the process of getting a library card (noting that you must take proof of address and birthday)
- Visited Congleton Shop-Mobility and arranged rental of a wheelchair for next week
- Arranged to visit Quinta Primary School to give a workshop about blind awareness
- Organised a litter pick and to tidy up the Community Garden
- Started getting permission from our selected charities to decorate tiles for our mosaic idea
Some things we have planned include a day where some group members try to traverse the area of Congleton in wheelchairs - we plan on filming and interviewing people, and possibly putting them in difficult social situations to see whether they'll help or not.
Hopefully we'll be able to collect money for charity as we do bag packing, but only if our license arrives in time.
